Paulina Zybinska
Where at the ZHdK can you be found?
Mostly at the Physical Computing Lab. It’s a small space full of electronic equipment, and not many know about it because it is hidden away within a larger workshop. I always feel like I am in a playground there.
Which topics are you focussing on at the moment?
Since finishing my Master’s I have been very interested in Machine Learning and the impact which neural networks, for example, will have on design. An immense number of existing open-source projects convey the unsettling impression that we are already living in the future.
With whom would you like to switch roles for half a year?
With a particle physicist at CERN in Geneva or a professional skater in San Francisco.
What is your personal definition of design?
Design is a clever solution for the right problem, guided by the actual rather than assumed behaviour of users.
