Blick Magazine features the diploma project “The Real Heidi”.
The article in Blick Magazine focuses on Linda Steck’s diploma project “The Real Heidi” and its protagonist Heidi Grebe. The work aims to make the experiences of older trans people visible in our society.
“The Real Heidi” documents the life of Heidi, a 69-year-old trans woman, in the form of a video. Her purple coat symbolises Heidi’s personal journey of transition in later life and the challenges that come with it. The chiffon ribbons that adorn the coat externalise Heidi’s longings and experiences. Adjusting these ribbons makes the process of transition tangible and emphasises the importance of support and cohesion in this phase of life.
Linda Steck acknowledges the diversity of trans identities in later life and gives them greater visibility. “The Real Heidi” encourages us to rethink ideas of gender identity and age and to support older trans people in our society.
