Book launch «Mode & Gender»

The Subject Area Trends & Identity cordially invites you to the book launch of «Mode und Gender», edited by Anna-Brigitte Schlittler and Katharina Tietze.

Fashion is designed identity and has always marked gender differences. The contributions from science and design explore how gender debates benefit from fashion and how fashion history gains in profile through a critical gender perspective. To this end, they focus on the historical-critical analysis of vestimentary objects in which emancipatory efforts have materialized since the 19th century. Another focus is on media analysis: gender roles are both constructed and deconstructed in music videos, series and (fashion) magazines. Together with complementary perspectives from museology, education policy and discourse analysis, this results in a comprehensive overview of the diverse relationships between fashion and gender.
