Flowers – the conference
The conference will focus on everyday cultural phenomena as well as political aspects and creative positions. From royal flower arrangements along Westminster Abbey to unpretentious bouquets in petrol station stores - the event promises a diverse program.
Beyond their numerous biological functions, their beauty and colorful diversity make flowers a decorative accessory in almost every situation in life; but they are also bearers of often contradictory religious, political and magical meanings, a global economic factor and, last but not least, an inspiration and model for the arts.
With contributions by Isabela Gygax, Erika Fankhauser Schürch, Ulrike Meyer Stump, Francis Müller, Anna-Brigitte Schlittler, Bitten Stetter, Katharina Tietze, David Jäggi, Franziska Nyffenegger and Eva Wandeler.
