Successful Debut at Toni-Areal
With the group exhibition “into – Gemeinsamkeit gestalten” at Toni-Areal, ZHdK made its debut as a host at Zurich Design Weeks, Switzerland’s largest design festival. Six emerging designers presented differenc creative approaches to societal challenges, demonstrating how design can foster a sense of community and bring people together.
From video games, digital storytelling and documentary film to an extensive book publication and an innovative agency project, the exhibition brought together works from six design disciplines, inviting visitors to explore social issues through distinctive creative and multimedia formats.
The audiovisual novel “Ein Stück mehr Wir” by Paris Baumann, a BA Game Design graduate, offers a playful insight into life with the rare 5p-minus syndrome. In "Between Glances”, Iris Prelorentzou, a BA Interaction Design graduate, used specially designed telescopes to connect visitors through their eye movements.
With “72 Stunden”, Chantal Clay, a BA Knowledge Visualisation graduate, collaborated with the University of Zurich to develop an interactive scrollytelling experience for the “Forensic Nurses” pilot project at the Institute of Forensic Medicine. It sensitively guides survivors of sexual violence through their options during the first 72 hours after an assault and explains what happens next.
In her book project “Mäzenatische Machtstrukturen – Eine Untersuchung am Beispiel der Familie”, Lia Grünig, a BA Visual Communication graduate, uses infographics to reveal the complex network of patronage surrounding the Reinhart family from Winterthur. The documentary “Echo 1971” by Alexa Weiss, a BA Cast / Audiovisual Media graduate, brings together the memories and experiences of eight women who witnessed the social changes following the introduction of women’s suffrage in Switzerland in 1971. An accompanying website featuring portraits, photographs and archival material offers further insights into their stories.
Brenda Offe, a Master’s graduate in Trends & Identity, advocates for greater diversity behind the scenes of the creative industries through her talent network “Akua Studios”. The initiative aims to increase the visibility of Black creatives in Europe and build bridges between the industry and creative professionals.
Two guided tours with the designers offered visitors an opportunity to explore the works and the ideas behind them, rounding off ZHdK’s exhibition during the eleven-day design festival.
