Durable Headphones
Timo Flury earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial design in 2020 and has since been working with Severin Meier (an ETH graduate in mechanical engineering) on producing Elements Earphones. He explains concept and implementation:
“Today, headphones are barely repairable and thus become disposable products. This motivated me to develop the concept for a durable headphone system as part of my bachelor’s thesis in design. Elements Earphones comprise a speaker module, computer module, battery module and various accessories. All individual elements can be replaced in one simple step, making the product repairable, upgradable and more sustainable.
To optimize wearing comfort, users can choose between different earpieces. Accessories allow adaptation to professional requirements and sports activities. Working with local companies enabled Severin Meier and me to manufacture the product in Switzerland. With our project, we want to show that a repairable product can be attractive and interesting for a broad target audience.”
The Elements Earphones will be shown this spring as part of the «Repair Revolution!» Exhibition at Zurich’s Design Museum and are expected to launch in 2023.
