Ase Schoe

Starting from initials on belts and suspenders—found in artisanal ornaments from the field of Sennensattlerei (Appenzellerland and Toggenburg)—this project examines the formal characteristics of their typography, analyses their distinctive proportions, line work and ornamental structures and translates these into a contemporary type design. The historical models are read as design references and developed further. In a personal engagement, tradition and craftsmanship are reflected upon and reinterpreted.
