Through words and images, «Friedliche Höfe» explores the cemetery as an urban habitat. Zurich’s burial grounds show that the cemetery is far more than a place for the dead. Here, people mourn and sunbathe, dance and drink. While the cemetery is shaped by secularisation and individualisation, it is precisely its regulating sense of piety that turns it into a contemporary place of longing.
