The themed exhibition «deus ex alga» presents algae as a speculative material and cultural leitmotif in a post-fossil fuel age. The current fascination with bio-based algae materials is similar to the enthusiasm for plastic as a trend material in the 1960s. In the context of planetary boundaries and ecological tipping points, algae are now emerging as a cross-sector «hope material» that embodies new ways of thinking, visions and aspirations. «deus ex alga» is an invitation to dare to experiment with materials, develop new narratives and open up a dialogue between humans and matter.
